"Boise State has received renewals for 78 percent of its football season tickets, the school announced Friday.

At a similar stage last year, Boise State had received renewals for 89 percent of tickets, ticket manager Anita Guerricabeitia said. However, that was around the first of June.

Only 3 percent of ticket-holders have outright dropped their seats so far, which is normal, Boise State reported. The other 19 percent haven't contacted Boise State and the ticket office will be making phone calls and sending postcards to get answers from them. That is a standard procedure that usually increases the renewal rate.

Guerricabeitia said the economy, and not rising ticket prices, were behind many of the drops.

"We're hearing a lot of economic hardships," Guerricabeitia said.

Boise State had 20,854 season-ticket holders last year, not counting the Stueckle Sky Club. A 10 percent dip would be less than 2,100 tickets. Boise State has about 1,000 people wanting about 3,500 tickets on its waiting list, Guerricabeitia said. Fans on the waiting list will be contacted in mid-June, after the ticket office contacts the remaining season-ticket holders and moves fans who requested different seats for this season."
