According to the Indiana Business Journal, the Indianapolis Colts new home is already too small. Lucas Oil Stadium will have a seating capacity of 63,000. The Colts Season Ticket Waiting List has grown to nearly 25,000. There is also a waiting list of 3,000 for club seats and 54 for suites. Franchised sports team owners take note: winning increases ticket sales.

I signed up for the waiting list approximately one month ago. I received a letter on May 9th stating I am #5259 on the waiting list and that all seats for this current season are full.
Just a warning to to anyone wanting to get on the season ticket waiting list - SAVE YOUR MONEY! I signed up a few years ago and currently have a priority number less than 1000. I was told last year I would probably get season tickets in the new stadium, as it had 6000 more seats than the RCA Dome.
However, instead of offering those 6000 seats to those of on the waiting list, they instead allowed existing season ticket holders to buy additional seats, and as a result, no one on the waiting list will get tickets this year (or likely for several more years).
It's hard to feel that this is fair to waiting list members when you see these season ticket holders buying them specifically for the purpose of re-selling them. I don't understand why a team like the Colts wouldn't implement a system like the Arizona Cardinals did when their season ticket base soared with the building of the new stadium. The Cardinals will allow existing season ticket holders to jump on the waiting list to purchase more seats but after the general public.
In my opinion, teams who charge people to be on the waiting list have an obligation to make a good faith effort to get those members season tickets. To allow season ticket holders to bypass the waiting list is not a good faith effort and by doing so, they are defrauding those of us who spent our money to get on the waiting list in the first place.
I HEARTILY agree with the word of warning about getting on the waiting list for season tickets. My boyfriend and I got on the list in 2006 and were told we were #1159. We too were told we should have no problem getting the 4 tickets we wanted. Everyone we talked to in the ticket office was optimistic that many of the waiting list people would be very happy once the new stadium was built.
As of the letter we received last week (May 2008), we were told we did not get the tickets, and there was certainly no explanation or estimation of when we could even hope to be near the top of the list. The best part: the letter stated we are now #1060 on the list. That means we only moved up 99 spots! With approximately 6,000 more seats and a waiting list of over 5,000 people, they could only accommodate 99 PEOPLE???
For icing on the cake, we have friends who have had season tickets for at least 5 years, and they were rejected when they tried to add only 1 ticket to their order. The people at the Colts office told us the season ticket holders renewed at a 99% rate and they were ALL offered to add 2 seats and were accommodated by seniority level. Interesting, isn't it? The hypocrisy runs deep, and we believe this waiting list is a great big joke. We would like to find out what REALLY happened and who REALLY got the tickets. I will always be a Colts fan, but the ticket office has some serious explaining to do. Someone there doesn't know how to do their job, and it is blatantly obvious.
If anyone else wants to start a petition or learn more about this, I would love to hear about it on here. We are so angry and frustrated with the way we were treated, we'd really like some answers and maybe even some resolution.
I too got on the waiting list in 2006 before the Colts won the Superbowl in '07. I was sent a letter in late '06 stating that they were "confident" that I along with the other people on the waiting list would get tickets in the new stadium. Prior to Lucas I was 1600 on the list. After Lucas was built with additional seating my position went to 1450. I thought seriously?, Only 150 people on the waiting list got tickets? Then when the Colts had a rough start to the '08-'09 season, they started releasing a ton of tickets weeks and months before the home games. These were clearly not returned tickets from opposing teams. I'm not really complaining as I was able to go to 3 games (and probably could have went to 3 others) but it begs the question "where did all of these extra tickets come from"?
There is clearly some shady stuff going on in the Colts office. I am a Fan, I love to go to games, I love the Colts, but for some reason the Colts would rather look for creative ways to make additional money on the extra tickets they have rather than reward actual fans. I agree with those on this thread that if someone wants extra tickets, no matter who they are, they should get on the waiting list like everyone else. That is the only fair way to release tickets. They took my $100 (per ticket) and I feel they should in turn be fair about how they distribute newly available tickets.
With Dungy's retirement it is marking the end (or beginning of the end) of an era for the Colts, and with Manning in his last few seasons it will be interesting how much more the Colts will start relying on thoes on the waiting list. If I wasn't such a fan I'd love to tell them to "stick it" when they finally come around with my congradulatory message about being awarded season tickets. I'm sure I'll take them, but I won't feel any sort of loyalty to the Colts should they run into tough times and ask their true fans for help.
My priority number was around 800 or so and I got called a couple of weeks ago and offered season tickets. All they had was 400 and 600 level seats, and there wasn't a lot in the 400 level. I'd say anyone under 3000 should have a shot at 600 level seats this year, just judging by how many seats they told me were available.
I have a number on the waiting list just over 4200, and I recieved an email on 5/29 asking for seating preferences for season tickets for the upcoming 2009 season... seating availibility was not abundant, but according to the email season tickets are still available. Im standing by... not holding my breath...
Wow! You guys are horribly bad fans. Either you have no idea what a waiting list is or your just dumb. I too have anxiously been waiting for my $150/seat investment to pay off. With the down turn in the economy I was hoping this would be the year but by no means was I expecting it. If you read anything about season tickets you would know that current seaon-ticket holders get first dibbs on any available tikets/upgrades. I was awarded tickets in a 400 level section and my wife and I are extremely happy. It is nice to know that if we would like to upgrade down the road my wife and I don't have to go back to the end of the list even if those who have had their tickets longer get the option before us!
